BELGRADE, Serbia, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A U.S. envoy Wednesday urged Serbia's prime minister to arrest Bosnian Serb Ratko Mladic and deliver the war crimes suspect to a U.N. court.
John Williamson, U.S. ambassador for war crimes, told Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica it is significant for Serbia to complete cooperation with the U.N. tribunal as soon as possible, meaning transferring Mladic and other Serb war crimes suspects to The Hague, Belgrade's Beta news agency reported.
During talks in Belgrade, Kostunica said his government has voiced full political resolve to wind up cooperation with The Hague tribunal, and said it was in the best interest of Serbia.
Earlier Wednesday, Williamson and Vladimir Vukcevic, Serbia's prosecutor for war crimes, discussed the case of three Bitichi brothers, U.S. citizens of Albanian origin, who were killed by Serbian police in 1999 in southern Serbia, a prosecutor's statement said.
