Schwarzenegger apologizes to legislator

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger apologized Friday to the only female Hispanic Republican in the California legislature for remarks about her "hot blood."

Schwarzenegger's casual joking with his chief of staff about Republican lawmakers was taped, and the Los Angeles Times obtained a six-minute segment of the audio. Schwarzenegger is a Republican but has been having more trouble with members of his own party recently than with Democrats, while Susan Kennedy, his chief of staff, is a Democrat.

The governor and Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia appeared together in Santa Monica, where Schwarzenegger apologized and Garcia graciously responded that he did not need to. He said it made him "cringe" when he saw his comments in the paper.

On the tape, he called Republicans "the wild bunch." Talking about Garcia, he said a combination of black and Hispanic blood made her hot.

"I mean, they are all very hot," he said. "They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it."
