LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Former Manson family member Leslie Van Houten has been denied release from a California prison.
A two-member panel of the state parole board turned down Van Houten's request for parole at a hearing Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reports. It was the 15th time she has been denied parole.
Van Houten, 57, was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1969 deaths of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca of Los Feliz, Calif.
Although she was a member of the Manson family, she was not involved in the killing of actress Sharon Tate and her houseguests.
Before denying parole, the commissioners praised Van Houten's disciplinary record and her work tutoring inmates at the California Institution for Women in Corona, Calif., the Times said.
They said she will be eligible for another parole hearing in a year.
Members of the victims' families opposed her release.
