Airline plot suspects face long wait

LONDON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A British prosecutor says suspects in an alleged plot to bomb U.S.-bound airliners may not face trial before 2008.

Prosecutor Colin Gibbs said Monday the vast amount of evidence in the alleged conspiracy means the trial could start "as late as March 2008," The Washington Post reported.

The newspaper said eight suspects accused of conspiracy to commit murder were ordered held without bail until their next court appearance on Sept. 18. Three other suspects are scheduled to appear in court that day.

Charges have yet to be filed against five other people who are being held after raids last month, the newspaper said.
