NOVI SAD, Serbia, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Political opponents of the late Slobodan Milosevic are opposing plans to honor the former Serbian president by naming a street in Serbia after him.
Public opinion in Serbia has long been divided Milosevic, the BBC reported, with many recognizing him as a hero for his actions during the wars with former Yugoslavia while others see him as the cause for the country's economic hardship.
Milosevic died in March from a heart attack while facing war crime charges, including allegations of genocide during the Bosnian war.
Milosevic's Socialist Party has said it will proceed with plans to name a street for him in Navi Sad, the country's second largest city, but opponents of the plan have vowed to protest the event, the BBC said.
