ROCHESTER, Minn., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Gerald Ford was back at his Rancho Mirage, Calif., home Tuesday after being released from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
A brief statement from Ford's chief of staff, Penny Circle, said the hospitalization that began Aug. 15 was planned, the Palm Springs (Calif.) Desert Sun reported.
The 93-year-old's Ford's wife, Betty, was at his side and returned home with him, Circle said.
Ford, the oldest living U.S. ex-president, had a pacemaker implanted Aug. 21, underwent an angioplasty and had two cardiac stents put in last Thursday, the newspaper said.
The Fords had been staying at their summer home in Beaver Creek, Colo., before the Mayo Clinic stay.
In the statement, the Fords thanked the Mayo staff and said: "The Fords also wish to thank the American people for their prayers and countless messages of good wishes."
