Mexican court upholds election

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- A Mexican court Monday upheld the results of last month's presidential election saying there was no fraud, as claimed by the losing candidate.

The decision by judicial officials reaffirms leftist former Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador lost the election to conservative candidate Felipe Calderon, El Universal reported online.

The electoral court is expected to name Calderon officially as the new president by the deadline date of Sept. 6.

Lopez Obrador has led several protesters in the capital since then, paralyzing the city while claiming there was widespread voting irregularities.
