No interviews with JonBenet suspect

BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A Colorado judge has ruled that neither the prosecution nor the press can interview the suspect in JonBenet Ramsey's killing without his lawyer's permission.

Seth Temin, head of the public defender's office in Boulder, said the request came from his client, John Mark Karr.

Temin filed a notice that he is representing Karr and also filed a notice of indigency. He asked Judge Roxanne Bailin to seal the application because he said Karr's handwriting could become an issue in the case.

Karr was arrested in Thailand and said that he killed the 6-year-old girl accidentally. JonBenet's body was found in the basement of her parents' home on Dec. 26, 1996.

A hearing is scheduled Monday at which Karr will receive formal notice of the charges he may face.
