Slovenia customs seize 100 lbs. of heroin

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Slovenia's customs officers seized 100 pounds of heroin hidden in a Serbian truck that tried to cross into Italy at the Vrtojba crossing point.

A customs spokesman said Tuesday it was one of the biggest drug seizures in the past several years, Croatia's HINA news agency reported.

Riding in the truck, two Serbian citizens Monday told them they had nothing to declare, as the vehicle had no cargo.

However, the officers, with help of a trained dog, uncovered the heroin stashed in 90 packages in a spare tire, the agency said.
