BOSTON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A United Airlines flight from London to Washington made an emergency diversion to Boston Wednesday after a passenger disturbance was reported.

Flight 923, with 182 passengers and 12 crewmembers, landed at Logan International Airport after a female passenger first was observed in "suspicious" activity and was then found to have prohibited items in her carry-on bag, the Boston Globe reported.

Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella did not elaborate on what activity drew attention to the woman, but an FBI spokeswoman said she had to be physically restrained and bound before landing.

State police and federal authorities surrounded the aircraft on the tarmac, and passengers were shuttled away in buses, the Globe reported.

Six days ago, British police said they had arrested 24 people in an alleged plot to bomb U.S.-bound aircraft with explosives in carry-on bags.
