Detectives found trampled grass, an ottoman, a Styrofoam block and cloth cushions on the inside of the guardrail on Cline Avenue, but no bullets or shell casing were recovered.

The Lake County sheriff says someone is targeting passing traffic with either a pellet gun, a .22-caliber rifle or a high-powered slingshot. Most of the incidents occurred the during weekday morning rush and in the early afternoon.

The first incident was reported on July 25, two days after a motorist was killed and another man wounded by a sniper in central Indiana. A 17-year-old Indiana man was arrested and confessed to those shootings.
