Bride's aunt and uncle killed after dinner

SYOSSET, N.Y., July 29 (UPI) -- An elderly New York couple were struck and killed by a car as they left their niece's marriage rehearsal dinner in a heavy rainstorm.

Nassau County detective Sgt. Stephen Palmer told the New York Post the deaths of Dorothy and Philip Christopher were "just a tragic accident." He said no charges have been filed against the driver, Jose Flores of Huntington Station.

The couple were crossing Jericho Turnpike and had almost reached their car when they were hit.

"They were such loving people, such great parents," said their daughter Linda Christopher. "I can't believe they're gone."

The couple's niece, Jessica Zmolil, and her husband-to-be, David Muenchen, decided to go ahead with Saturday's wedding, relatives said. But they described the couple as feeling responsible for the deaths and devastated by the situation.
