PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, July 26 (UPI) -- More than 50 nations and international organizations have pledged over $750 million for Haiti's economic and social reconstruction, The Miami Herald said.

"We are happy for the support and commitment," said Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis following Tuesday's International Conference for the Economic and Social Development of Haiti. "This will allow us to erase the burden and errors of past governments."

Haiti is asking for a total of $7.1 billion over the next five years for a series of projects including infrastructure upgrades and social programs.
