LONDON, July 14 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair faces a police interview when he returns from his summer holiday, The Times of London reports.

Citing police sources, the newspaper said Blair and his chief of staff, Jonathan Powell, are to be questioned about the peerages-for-cash scandal before the Labor Party Conference.

At a news briefing Friday morning, Blair's spokesman said the prime minister's office had received no word from police on an interview. Blair will be in St. Petersburg, Russia, this weekend for the G8 summit, before going on vacation with his family.

The last British prime minister to be questioned in a corruption case was David Lloyd George. The 1920s scandal involving the use of peerages to raise money led to enactment of laws the Labor Party may have violated.

Baron Michael Levy, Blair's chief fundraiser, went through another round of police questioning Thursday.
