Siberian plane crash toll reaches 122

IRKUTSK, Russia, July 10 (UPI) -- The death toll from a weekend plane crash in Siberia reached 122, with six people still unaccounted for, Russian officials said Monday.

The S7 airlines Airbus A310-300 crashed on landing at Irkutsk Sunday and slammed into a concrete wall and burst into flames.

"At this point, 122 bodies have been found and six passengers are still unaccounted for," investigation leader Igor Levitin told the Novisti news agency. "Fifty-seven people have been hospitalized -- 15 are foreigners."

The airline said 203 people were on board the flight from Moscow, including eight crew and three people not on the passenger list.

An unnamed official told Novosti the plane's hydraulic braking system appeared to have failed after the pilot radioed in a successful landing.

It took firefighters three hours to extinguish the fire, local media said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a national day of mourning, the BBC reported.
