Report: Swann campaign gains footing

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 9 (UPI) -- After a disorganized start and low poll ratings, supporters say former Pittsburgh Steelers star Lynn Swann's campaign for Pennsylvania governor is looking up.

Although he garnered mostly good reviews along the way from the public and the media, it remains a question mark whether Swann's recent and aggressive campaign push will help jump-start his flagging campaign, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.

Supporters insist that after a series of early gaffes and general campaign disorganization, Swann is doing what he needs to do -- going out on the road and talking to voters, while minding the campaign bank account.

Most agree that Swann's recent bus tour has helped. But there are still deep doubts that Swann is too far behind Gov. Ed Rendell -- not just in political gravitas, but in campaign cash -- to catch up. If he doesn't show upward movement in the polls by Labor Day, many believe the November race could turn into a lock for Rendell, the newspaper said.
