Two police killed in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, July 6 (UPI) -- Two Salvadoran police officers were killed in clashes with student protesters over bus fare prices, La Prensa Libre reported Thursday.

A dozen more were injured in the melee. The violence was reportedly kicked off when police fired tear gas into the crowd, which responded by firing guns in the air and vandalizing several cars.

El Salvador President Tony Saca condemned the killings and blamed the violence on the FMLN opposition party.
