DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 5 (UPI) -- A Daytona Beach, Fla., beach patrol officer who ran over a woman sunbather in his pickup truck will be ticketed for careless driving.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Volusia County Beach Patrol Officer Robert Augustynowski will face a $115 fine after Monday's incident, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.
A Beach Patrol spokesman said Augustynowski did not see 20-year-old Danielle Taylor as she lay on the sand near the shore as the Georgia woman was just beyond a berm and was not immediately visible, the Daytona Beach News-Journal said.
The 43-year-old veteran officer was traveling about 2 mph when he rolled diagonally over Taylor from her shoulder to her hip.
The woman's condition was not available Tuesday night.
County officials said Augustynowski could likely also receive a written reprimand and retraining on driving on the beach.
