Organ-donation spokesman dies

NAPERVILLE, Ill., June 27 (UPI) -- An Illinois man who appeared in commercials for the state's organ donation program has died while awaiting a donated kidney.

David Alan Redwanc, 31, of Naperville died of lung complications in Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Redwanc, who had the lung disease cystic fibrosis, received a double lung transplant in 1998.

Because of the complications of cystic fibrosis and the lung transplant, Redwanc discovered in 2005 that he had developed chronic kidney failure and would require a kidney transplant.

His doctors at Maywood Medical Center and the Gift of Hope organization suggested to the office of Secretary of State Jesse White that Redwanc would make a good spokesman for the Illinois organ donation program. Redwanc is in current television and radio commercials, the newspaper said.
