Grenade found outside Detroit IRS office

DETROIT, June 20 (UPI) -- The Detroit Metropolitan Police bomb squad removed and safely exploded a hand grenade found outside the Internal Revenue Service building downtown.

Police said the pin had not been pulled from the pineapple-style grenade when it was found inside a fence surrounding the IRS building Monday night.

The device was taken to an isolated area of Belle Isle and detonated, the Detroit News reported Tuesday. FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents were investigating.
