JERUSALEM, June 16 (UPI) -- Israel has warned the Palestinians it will step up its military response to rocket fire from the Gaza Strip unless the attacks are halted.

"If the residents of the Gaza Strip don't understand that the biggest threat to their security is the Qassam fire, then we will have to intensify our response and take steps that we have not yet taken," Justice Minister Haim Ramon told Israel Radio.

He did not specify which steps were being considered, Ha'aretz said.

Israel says it will attack Hamas's leadership unless the rocket attacks cease, the newspaper reported.

"We are not interested in making any offers or proposals," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Ha'aretz.
