TEL AVIV, Israel, June 12 (UPI) -- At least 150 people were injured in Israel Monday when a double-decker train struck a car at a crossing and three cars derailed and overturned.

The train was traveling from Tel Aviv to Haifa, and hit the car near Beit Yehoshua Junction, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the car's driver managed to get out before the train struck.

The driver told Ynetnews a truck hit him from behind and pushed him onto the railroad tracks.

A military search-and-rescue team was deployed, and a 250-ton crane was requisitioned to get the overturned cars back onto the rails.

The train was carrying about 200 people, five of whom had to be extricated by rescue crews, Ynetnews said.
