HUNTINGTON, N.Y., June 8 (UPI) -- Conservative author Ann Coulter is deflecting criticism of her new book in which she calls women made widows in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks "witches."
Very few protesters showed up in Huntington, N.Y., Wednesday for a book signing event, but one municipal official handed her a letter of protest which she read and tore up to the applause of about 300 fans, Newsday reported.
She was signing copies of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," which was published Monday, and is critical of the attention grieving widows got, and their alleged use of the media to criticize President George Bush.
"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by the grief-arazzis," she wrote. "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
When told Huntington was the hometown to 34 people killed in the attacks, Coulter was unfazed.
"I didn't fly planes into the building," she said.
