Gore: Global warming is moral issue

CARTHAGE, Tenn., June 4 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore Sunday said global warming was a moral issue, not a political one.

Gore, appearing on ABC's "This Week" to promote his new movie and book -- both titled "An Inconvenient Truth" -- said he plans to try to influence public opinion on the issue and change U.S. energy policy.

"The main objective is to change the way people think about this," said Gore. "This is not a political issue. It is a moral issue."

Gore -- the Democratic candidate for president in 2000 -- has recently been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2008. However, in an interview at his Carthage, Tenn., home, he said he does not intend to run.

"I have no plans to be a candidate for president again," he said.

Gore said he would try to work on environmental issues with whoever wins the 2008 presidential election.
