Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- A federal grand jury looking into the relationship between U.S. Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., and a lobbying firm has subpoenaed San Bernardino County records.
The subpoenas called for records from both the county and from Redlands, a city which Lewis -- chairman of the House Appropriations Committee -- once represented, The Los Angeles Times reported.
The lobbyist, Bill Lowery, had connections to former Rep. Randy Cunningham, R-Calif., who was sentenced to prison for accepting millions of dollars in bribes and favors.
The grand jury is investigating whether the relationship between Lewis and Lowery's staff influenced the treatment of Lowery's clients.
"Throughout my career, I have .. made every effort to meet the highest ethical standards," said Lewis in a statement, "and I am absolutely certain that any review of my work will confirm this."
