Poll: Bush is worst post-WWII president

HAMDEN, Conn., June 1 (UPI) -- A Quinnipiac University poll finds that more than one-third of U.S. voters rank George W. Bush as the worst president since 1945.

Ronald Reagan had the highest percentage of voters ranking him as the best, with 28 percent, while Bill Clinton followed with 25 percent. Clinton was also a leading choice as worst president -- with 16 percent of those surveyed putting him at the bottom compared to 17 percent for Richard Nixon and 35 percent for Bush.

The war in Iraq was the main reason cited by voters who ranked Bush as the worst. By 56 percent to 39 percent, they said the war was the wrong thing to do, Editor & Publisher reported.

Democrats and younger people tended to name Clinton as the best recent president, while older Democrats harked back to Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy. Republicans went for Reagan.

Among white evangelical protestants, Clinton was ranked as worst president.
