Hostage victim mistakenly killed by police in Hempstead, N.Y.
DETROIT, May 30 (UPI) -- Searchers Tuesday wrapped up the latest hunt for the remains of missing Teamsters union boss Jimmy Hoffa after nearly two weeks of digging on a Michigan farm.
About 50 federal agents from Detroit, Chicago and Washington combed the Hidden Dreams Farm in Milford Township but found no trace of the labor leader who disappeared from the parking lot of a Bloomfield Township restaurant 30 years ago, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The latest search for Hoffa was triggered by a tip from Donovan Wells, a 75-year-old prison inmate who once lived on the 89-acre horse farm.
Wells said he saw two men dig a hole after Hoffa vanished July 30, 1975, and that he was told, "That's Jimmy going down."
The FBI had no immediate comment on ending the search, the newspaper said.
Authorities believe Hoffa was killed to keep him from regaining control of the national truckers' union.
