Veterinary officials confirmed the two swans died of the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus and authorities immediately introduced safety measures to isolate the region.

This was the first case of the bird flu virus in the eastern Czech Republic.

In March, bird flu cases were registered in five different regions of southern Bohemia.

No new cases have been reported in the south of the country since May 10.
