NEW DELHI, May 23 (UPI) -- Police near India's capital New Delhi say a woman, earlier thought to have committed suicide, was forced by villagers to jump on her husband's funeral pyre.
The death of the woman last week near the town of Fatehpur was first ruled a suicide, reports the Hindustan Times. But now police suspect her husband was killed to collect on his insurance and that villagers angered over the killing forced the woman of the victim on the funeral pyre.
Fatehpur police arrested an insurance agent who along with the woman is accused of conspired to kill the husband, the report said. Police also had arrest warrants for the husband's three brothers.
A police official said some of the villagers have been charged with abetting crime in the woman's death.
