KATHMANDU, Nepal, May 19 (UPI) -- Apa Sherpa broke his own record Friday -- as well as the world record -- by climbing Mount Everest for the 16th time, the Himalayan Times reported.

Apa was the Sirdar, or head guide, for the American expedition "Team No Limit."

Apa, 46, has climbed Everest almost every year, breaking his own record each time, zeenews.com reported.

"This urge seems to run in his blood," Ang Tshering Sherpa, president of the Nepal Mountaineering Association and managing director of Asian Trekking, told THT Online.
