JERUSALEM, May 18 (UPI) -- A Christian politician in Lebanon says four Iranian diplomats missing since 1982 were killed by militiamen in his country, reports the Jerusalem Post.
Iran has claimed the four were being held in Israel for a future deal involving Israeli air force pilot Ron Arad, who is claimed as being dead by Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the Post said.
But Samir Geagea was quoted as telling the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir that the four diplomats "were killed by members of the Lebanese Forces." He reportedly said the four died shortly after being kidnapped at a Lebanese Forces checkpoint during the 1982 War in Lebanon.
Israel has refused to accept that Arad is dead. "Our working assumption is that he is alive. Unless someone is brought back to Israel dead and in a coffin, then the assumption is that he is alive," one military official told the Post.
