Lawyer injures 5 in Turkish court shooting

ANKARA, Turkey, May 17 (UPI) -- A lawyer in the Turkish capital of Ankara was arrested Wednesday morning after a shooting spree in the country's highest court injured five people.

The gunman attacked judges with a plastic-coated Glock automatic handgun as the judges met in a deliberation room, the Cihan news agency reported. Officials said the plastic coating enabled the suspect to pass through security X-ray machines without notice.

The person arrested was identified as a lawyer named Aslan Alpaslan, the Hurriyet news agency said. He was subdued and arrested while allegedly holding the gun.

Two of the shooting victims were reported in serious condition and initial reports one judge had died could not be immediately confirmed.
