Canadian survives bear attack

BANFF, Alberta, May 15 (UPI) -- A Canadian man who was attacked by a black bear while riding his bike through a national park may lose an arm but is expected to survive.

Greg Flaaten was riding through Banff National Park Friday when the 4-year-old bear started chasing him, the Calgary Sun reported.

The 41-year-old Web administrator broke a shoulder blade and lost muscles in is tricep and bicep of an arm and is to undergo more surgery, the newspaper said.

His sister-in-law, Mary Ann Flaaten, didn't confirm whether the arm will be saved.

The bear that attacked Flaaten was killed and the area where Flaaten was attacked is expected to be reopened Monday, the Sun said.
