Pastor resigns citing stress, accusations

JOLIET, Ill., May 15 (UPI) -- A Roman Catholic priest in Joliet, Ill., asked to be relieved of parish duties because of stress and unspecified accusations.

The Rev. James Radek, pastor of St. Joseph Church, asked Bishop Joseph Imesch to accept his resignation immediately, the Joliet Herald-News reported.

A statement read by a diocesan official did not elaborate on Radek's reasons.

However, Imesch and two other priests were called before a grand jury last month, the Herald-News noted.

Joliet is among the Catholic dioceses that have been hit by sexual abuse allegations. There was no indication whether Radek's resignation was related to any investigation.
