Mom mortally injured trying to save sons

LIHUE, Hawaii, May 9 (UPI) -- A tourist in Hawaii died two days after rescuing her 8-year-old son from a rip current on the island of Kauai.

Jennifer White of Gunnison, Colo., pulled her son Aaron from the current around noon on Saturday, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported. Then she went back in the water in an effort to save another son, Tyler, 9.

A bystander pulled White out of the water and she was taken to a hospital. She died Monday morning.

Tyler White's body was still missing late Monday. Searchers were stretched thin because a local boy, John Dacuycuy, 17, a Kapaa High School, disappeared from another beach at around the same time.

Dacuycuy was also still missing, and Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman said the search for the two boys was no longer active.
