Spain investigates euthanasia plea

MADRID, May 8 (UPI) -- Spanish officials are investigating a euthanasia case after a paralyzed man who turned to the Internet for help was found dead, EFE news agency said Monday.

Jorge Leon Escudero, 53 -- who was discovered at home disconnected from his respirator -- had reportedly spent months on the Internet looking for someone to help him "die with dignity."

The case reignited the hot topic of euthanasia in Spain. The Oscar-winning film "The Sea Inside" depicted the 1998 death of another Spanish disabled man, Ramon Sampedro, who campaigned in the Spanish courts to be allowed to die.
