Israel, Gaza exchange violence

JERUSALEM, May 7 (UPI) -- Palestinian militants and civilians were among the dead in Israeli attacks on suspected terrorist training grounds and rocket launch sites.

A 55-year-old civilian was confirmed dead Sunday at a Palestinian hospital and a 60-year-old farmer was also killed, while two other farmers and a security officer were injured, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Israeli officials said the attacks by defense forces was in retaliation for several Kassam rockets launched from Gaza into Israel Friday.

Nearly 300 shells were fired from Israeli tanks at sites thought to be housing Popular Resistance Committee militants.

PRC officials said they will, in turn, respond with more violence.
