Nepal government to include Maoists

KATHMANDU, Nepal, May 5 (UPI) -- Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that Maoist rebels will be allowed to participate in an interim government.

The guerrillas should be represented in elections to a constituent assembly, Koirala said Thursday in Kathmandu, following a meeting with Norwegian Minister for International Development Erik Solheim, state-run Radio Nepal said Friday.

"The country must see no more bloodshed and violence," the radio quoted Koirala as saying. The prime minister said he hoped the new government would be able to work with the guerrillas to resolve problems.

Solheim told journalists that his country was willing to assist Nepal in conflict resolution and would provide development assistance to help rebuild the country, which has suffered from decades of civil strife.
