WASHINGTON, May 5 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped three years ago in Utah by two homeless drifters, tells CNN she does not want her eight-month ordeal to dominate her life.
"I don't try to think back," she said on "Larry King Live." "I don't try to look back. I see my life before and then now and I don't sit there and think about it. I just go on."
Elizabeth Smart appeared on the show with her father, Ed, and John Walsh, host of "America's Most Wanted." The U.S. Senate had just passed a bill inspired by her case.
Brian Mitchell and Wanda Ilene Barzee have been charged with abducting Smart from the bedroom she shared with her sister in her family's Salt Lake City home. Mitchell, who worked briefly for Ed Smart, allegedly believed God had given him Elizabeth as his plural wife.
Asked by King if she ever asked God "why me?" during the months she spent with Mitchell and Barzee, she said that she turned it around. If it was not her, then who would it be and why should that person be suffering?
The high school senior is looking forward to college at Brigham Young University.
