BELGRADE, Serbia, May 4 (UPI) -- Serbian police have arrested two men on suspicion they helped war-crimes suspect Ratko Mladic evade arrest and surrender to a U.N. court.
Belgrade's private B92 radio reported the police arrested two brothers from the inner circle of Mladic's supporters who allegedly have been hiding him.
The arrests were ordered by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, hoping a crackdown on Mladic's supporters will lead to the former general's arrest.
Kostunica's failure to keep a promise to hand over Mladic to The Hague tribunal by last Sunday has resulted in the EU decision to call off association talks with Serbia-Montenegro.
Mladic is sought on genocide and crimes against humanity charges in the former Yugoslavia in the 1991-95 period.
"We have suffered a serious blow and we have to react promptly. It means we have to locate Mladic. We shall double our forces and fulfill our obligation," Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti newspaper quoted Kostunica as saying.
Although Brussels decided to interrupt the association talks with Serbia, these could be resumed soon after Mladic is handed over to the tribunal, EU officials said.
