LONDON, May 3 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair urged voters to consider his Labor party's achievements over the past nine years when voting in Thursday's local elections.

He said recent scandals should not be used to punish the party, reports the Daily Telegraph.

In the latest scandal, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has been embarrassed by publicity over a sexual affair. Earlier, Home Secretary Charles Clarke admitted that more than 1,000 foreign prisoners -- including killers, rapists and child abusers -- had been released into the community instead of being deported.

"Nine days' headlines should not obscure nine years of achievement," Blair said in a campaign speech.

Blair, who has taken charge of his party's campaign, is making a last minute push to shore up Labor's image by listing its achievements in education, health and law and order.
