UNION, N.J., May 2 (UPI) -- A New Jersey brother and sister died after sneaking out and falling into their family's swimming pool while their mother was taking a nap.
Their mother, Jacqueline Faniel, had not used the pool for years, and visibility was so low that searchers had trouble finding the 4-year-old fraternal twins, the New York Post reported. Ahmad and Isha Faniel were pronounced dead at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Pat Prescod, a close friend who sometimes babysat the twins, said that Faniel called her as soon as she woke from her nap Sunday evening and could not find her children. She said they searched the house but did not think of looking in the backyard or the pool because the family never used either.
Neighbors said they saw the children playing in the front yard around 7 p.m.
"They were close to each other," Prescod said. "They were close to their mother. They were playmates, whatever they did, they did together."
