Grandfather accused of hot pepper torture

LEBANON, Ohio, May 2 (UPI) -- An Ohio grandfather was held without bond on charges he tortured his misbehaving grandson by stuffing his mouth with hot peppers, a report said Tuesday.

David Hubbard, 50, was indicted Monday on charges of child endangerment for allegedly filling his grandson's mouth with hot peppers, taping his mouth shut and putting the 4-year-old in an entertainment center that also was taped shut.

The 4-year-old, who suffered blisters, bruises and cuts, and three siblings have been in foster care since mid-April for the abuse that allegedly began in January, Lebanon, Ohio, prosecutors said.

Patti Jacobs of Warren County, Ohio, Children Services told the Cincinnati Enquirer that caseworkers never before encountered such a situation.

"It's outrageous, even for us," Jacobs said.

The abuse occurred while the four children and their mother were living temporarily with Hubbard in his mobile home, authorities said.
