Firm may design world's tallest building

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, May 2 (UPI) -- The Danish architectural firm responsible for the Copenhagen Opera House says it is close to securing a contract to design the world's tallest skyscraper in Bahrain.

Henning Larsens Tegnestue A/S is also the designer of two buildings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Embassy.

Louis Becker, the firm's managing director, says that the project in Bahrain includes five towers, representing the five pillars of Islam, the Copenhagen Post reported. The tallest would be 1,022 meters (more than 3,000 feet or well over half a mile) with 200 stories, while the second tallest would be 600 meters or more than 1,800 feet.

The tallest building would be twice as high as the current skyscraping champion, in Taipei, Taiwan.
