NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- Jailed serial-killer David Berkowitz, known as "The Son of Sam," has become a Christian and developed into a spiritual guru, the New York Post reports.
Berkowitz's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, said part of the groundswell is coming from Berkowitz's religious "Son of Hope" Web site, in which he documents his turnaround to Christianity after being convicted of killing six people in New York in the 1970s.
"People are ... praising Berkowitz on how he has touched their lives," said Heller.
Berkowitz also has a fairly new role as a "victim," based on his claims a former lawyer allegedly stole his personal effects to publish a book, the newspaper said.
The property included photos of his deceased mother, his bar mitzvah pictures, last will and testament, college papers, commitment papers, parole-hearing decisions and letters from the mother of one of his victims.
Berkowitz is suing the lawyer, Hugo Harmatz.
