Staffers questioned in McKinney scuffle

WASHINGTON, April 30 (UPI) -- Several Capitol Hill staffers will testify in the investigation into the scuffle between U.S. Rep. Cynthia A. McKinney, D-Ga., and a Capitol Police officer.

The Washington Times reported that aides to members of Congress from both parties agreed to comply with subpoenas issued for them to testify as witnesses before a Washington grand jury.

McKinney, who faces possible assault charges, has apologized for striking the officer who stopped her as she went around metal detectors at a House office building checkpoint.

A source in the U.S. Attorney's Office told the newspaper that the office considers the scuffle an "ongoing investigation."

Once the grand jury completes its work, the office either will make a statement of its findings or will indict the Georgia Democrat on charges of assaulting a police officer, the newspaper said.
