Priest wants justice for abused brother

CHICAGO, April 30 (UPI) -- A Chicago priest is calling for justice for his older brother, who was allegedly molested by their parish priest more than 30 years ago.

The Rev. Michael Knotek -- the pastor of St. John De La Salle Catholic Church on Chicago's far South Side -- said he believes the church tried to cover up the incident, which allegedly occurred when his teenage brother George sought counsel from the Rev. Donald Pock about his calling to the clergy, the Chicago Tribune reported.

As a young seminarian, Michael Knotek decided to report the offense to the church hierarchy. He said he was told to stay quiet, the newspaper reported.

In February, 52-year-old George Knotek sued the Joliet diocese, demanding the release of a list of all accused priests, along with documentation of the complaints against them.

The Joliet diocese released 22 names this month, but George Knotek is pressing for a more detailed list. His brother backs him 100 percent, the newspaper said.

"It's just a justice issue," Michael Knotek said. "There can't be any more secrets. In conscience, I cannot give this up."
