RIO DE JANEIRO, April 27 (UPI) -- A third Brazilian man has been convicted and sentenced to prison for the February 2005 murder of an American nun working in the Amazon, O Globo reported Thursday.
Amair Feijoli da Cunha was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the death of 73-year-old nun and activist Dorothy Stang.
De Cunha reportedly acted as an intermediary between the two gunmen already convicted and the local landowners who allegedly hired them.
Stang was a long-time activist in the Amazon for workers' rights and the environment. Local ranchers and loggers had repeatedly threatened her over the years.
The family of Stang -- who was originally from Dayton, Ohio -- said true justice wouldn't be served until those who ordered her death were also convicted.
