Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
, Israel, April 26 (UPI) -- The terror cell arrested in Jordan reportedly received orders from Hamas leader abroad Khaled Mashaal. The Lebanese newspaper El Mustakkbal reported Wednesday that Jordanian intelligence officials had bugged a telephone conversation in which Mashaal issued instructions to one of the cell members.
However, Jordanian government spokesman Nasser Judeh on Tuesday confirmed only that the cell was directed by a "senior Hamas member in Syria."
The Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot reported Wednesday that Jordanian intelligence was investigating whether the Hamas cell's operations in Jordan - home to over 950,000 Palestinian refugees, according to the UNRWA - indicate a change in Hamas's targets, which until now, have been confined to Israel and the West Bank.
"Establishing a secret base in Jordan for operations against Israel is one thing, but attacking Jordan's security is another," Yediot quoted a Jordanian source as saying.
Hamas flatly denied the reports that it was planning terror attacks in Jordan. "We deny Jordan's accusations, as they are false and baseless," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said on Tuesday.
