Space ride reopens after death probe

ORLANDO, Calif., April 13 (UPI) -- Epcot's "Mission: Space" attraction in Orlando was reopened by Disney Thursday, hours after the death of a woman rider.

The $100 million space ride was closed for an overnight inspection after a 49-year-old woman became ill and died after riding the attraction.

A Disney spokeswoman said, "A thorough inspection of the attraction overnight ... found it to be operating properly," WKMG-TV reported.

It was second time a fatality forced the popular attraction off line for an inspection. It was closed in June after the death of a 4-year-old Pennsylvania boy with an irregular heart beat, but reopened after company engineers concluded it was operating normally.

A warning sign posted in 2004 in front of the ride read: "For safety you should be in good health, and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness or other conditions that can be aggravated by this adventure."
